Tiffany Sage Biography
Tiffany sage was born in Palatka, Florida, in 1979. She studied painting at the Florida school of the arts and photography at the savannah college of art and design. In her practice, sage works in photography and painting. She is one of the few painters of her generation to work in photorealism and she explores and combines traditional motifs from photography - portraiture and still life - within her meticulously hand-painted works.
The painting, Apollo and Garfield, 2018, depicts a self-portrait of the artist, masked, holding an orange tabby cat against vibrant-colored clothing, pops of color, and a sparse background. The combination of portraiture and mask is a central theme in sage's projects. With humor and intimacy, Apollo and Garfield is a testament to our collective memories of childhood and conveys a sense of nostalgia, connection, and emotion heightened by the high keyed pigments.
Sage's work has been exhibited throughout the united states. A recent group exhibition, lions, tigers, and bears at the Vendue in Charleston in 2017, featured running bear, a painting of a stuffed bear wearing a green hoodie in her signature photo-realistic technique. Her photography has been published in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, W, In-style, Elle, Forbes, Paper, Glamour, New Work magazine, and Architectural Digest.
